What a Promise is Not
A promise is nothing more than words with no meaning;
Spoken senselessly by someone with a shallow being.
A promise is meant to be kept.
A promise is not what was made to that little girl,
Who like an animal lived in a hole;
To find freedom and enjoy life.
All she received was a life lived in solitude,
A life lived with rat.
A promise that forced her to wonder of her existence,
Be inquisitive of life like it spoke a foreign language.
A promise that made her wonder how different life would have been,
If it never was made.
A promise is not a word in her vocabulary,
It means nothing to her,
Nothing more than the hole that she called home.
There was a Time
There was a time when differences were not accepted,
When they were discarded like trash in garbage.
When people with blue eyes and blonde hair were perfect-
Others were not.
When citizens were judged by their beliefs.
There was a time when people were given a choice:
Give up your identity,
Or give up your life.
There was a time not long along, the Holocaust,
When this was reality.
When children were forced to hide in holes like animals,
When mother’s witnessed their children beginning killed,
And were forced to be bystanders, or worse participants.
A time when these actions were condoned,
As if they were just.
A time that was marked by hatred and hostility,
A time that everyone holds in their hearts,
Like a mother carries a picture of her daughter.
There once was a time that will never be forgotten.
